Benefits of Rosehip Oil on the Skin

ByEmilia Holloran

Rosehip oil is a pretty new thing to most cosmetic companies and to individuals. It has however been known for its excellent skin benefits for hundreds of years in the location where the oil comes from (the Andes in South America). It can do many things with the skin and is an essential oil that you should be trying if you have wrinkles, scarring or acne scarring, sun damage, dry skin, aging skin or just want to see what it does! Fair enough. What are the ?

The oil is made from the seeds that come from within the fruit of the Rose plant. Didn't know Roses could have fruit (or berries)? Since they only really grow in those mountains of South America which I mentioned above. So technically we should be calling Rosehip oil 'Rosehip seed oil' but I think we can shorten it and still get the picture right?

The essential oil is for a start packed with Vitamin C. This vitamin is a healing vitamin (most vitamins are though) with extra emphasis on its anti-aging benefits. Many anti-aging products include Vitamin C in some form or another. Rosehip oil also includes Vitamin A which helps to stimulate collagen production and regeneration of skin cells. If you are trying to repair acne scars or other scars this is something that you will really want to include in a natural scar reduction program.

Rosehip seed oil also includes large qualities of the two Omegas 3 and 6. These fatty acids are excellent at speeding up skin regeneration and actually help the skin to avoid creating large new patches of skin that are harder to fade. If you have just gotten a scar Rosehip oil will work very effectively. This of course doesn't mean that it will only work for fresh scars - people with older scars have gotten results as well.

This essential oil is one of those few where actual studies have been done. Studies have shown that people who apply the oil have faster scar fading then those that don't. People with sun damaged skin have had similar excellent results.

The are many. Wrinkles can be helped, scarring is definitely something aided as well as sun damage and dry skin. Rosehip oil is used in many creams that are very expensive but you can get the raw results from just a small bottle of the essential oil - you don't need all the other crap that goes into a skin cream tub. It's not expensive and it costs between ten and twenty dollars a bottle. A small bottle will last for several weeks so it's an economical skin care product.
